Gallery Overview
Located on the first floor of the History Museum on the Square, our beautiful Voices of History gallery is connected to our Welcome Center by two hallways and looks out on iconic Route 66 and Springfield's historic Park Central Square.
The renovated turn of the century building serves as a state-of-the-art feature gallery for HMS temporary and traveling exhibits. The museum also uses this historic space for special events and private rental.
The front entrance to the VOH gallery features a large high-definition monitor displaying our increasing list of generous museum donors. A reproduction mid-century modern chandelier lights this area of the gallery. Modern benches and end tables remind visitors of the textures and colors once found in the beloved Barth's men's department store long ago, which now houses the main part of the museum. The video kiosk at the back of the gallery plays history-themed videos or exciting digital presentations that are part of our temporary exhibit displays.
